The London School of Economics and Political Science (often referred to as LSE) was found in 1895. LSE is a member of the Russell Group which represents 24 leading UK universities committed to maintaining the very best research, an outstanding teaching and learning experience and unrivaled links with business and the public sector.

By 2016, 18 Nobel Prize winners and 37 world leaders have either taught or studied at LSE. The university is centrally located in London, within a walking distance from the city landmarks such as the British Museum, the Trafalgar Square and the Parliament Building.

LSE has more than 10,000 students, among whom nearly 70% come from 160 countries. It is a home to 25 academic departments and 23 research centers. Many of its top-level academics have frequently advised governments and international organizations in the world.

Now in its 30th year, the LSE’s Summer School is the most well-established and the largest of its kind in the whole of Europe, with over 80 academically rigorous courses on offer. Those who meet the English language and academic requirements can choose to attend one session, two consecutive sessions or all the three session of Summer 2018 as listed below:
Session One：18 June – 6 July 2018（3 weeks）
Session Two：9 – 27 July 2018（3 weeks）
Session Three：30 July – 17 August 2018（3 weeks）  
LSE Summer School courses are full-time, intensive programs, and consist of at least 54 contact hours over the three-week period, generally taking the form of 36 hours of lectures and 18 hours of tutorial or seminar-based classes. In addition, students are recommended to spend 2-3 hours per day in self-guided study.

Students can choose one course only per session from a range of academic areas including Accounting, Business and Management, Culture and Environment, Economics, Finance, International Relations, Government and Society, Law and English Language. Courses are taught at 3 levels, namely 100 Level, 200 Level and 300 Level. The 200 Level and 300 Level courses are equivalent to intermediate and advanced university courses, and often have prerequisites of university level courses in the same or a closely related subject. Those who wish to improve their business communication skills may choose English for Business, which is only available in Session Three. 

Students without TOEFL or IELTS scores may apply with their CET-4 scores. However, they must attend one week Intensive English course prior to the credit course, which adds the program length up to 4 weeks in total. The start dates of the Intensive English course are June 11, July 2 and July 23, 2018.

Assessment for Summer School courses is based upon the results of either two formal examinations or a combination of formal examination and assessed work. Students will obtain an official LSE transcript and a certificate upon completion of program.

Each Summer School course is equivalent to one course from an undergraduate degree. Generally the LSE courses receive 3-4 credits in the US system. It is up to the students’ home institutions to decide whether and how many credits can be transferred back the home institutions.

- Finance, Economics and Accounting: TOEFL 93 or IELTS 6.5
- Management, Law, International Relations, Government and Society: TOEFL 107 or above (including 25 in each component), or IELTS 7.0 or above (including 7 in all components)
- English for Business: TOEFL 79，IELTS 6.0 or CET-4 470
- Students applying with a CET-4 score (470 or above) must attend one week Intensive English course prior to a credit course (except for English for Business course)

All applicants need to show university grades of GPA 3.0 for English for Business course and GPA 3.3 for all the other courses.

Choosing Courses

General Course students take four full-unit courses (or the equivalent in half-unit courses), and may pick and choose these from across 300+ options in 18 academic disciplines including Accounting, Anthropology, Economic History, Economics, Finance, Geography and Environment, Government, International History, International Relations, Language Centre, Law, Management, Mathematics, Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method, Social Policy, Social Psychology, Sociology and Statistics.
General Course students are assigned to one of the 16 academic departments that offer undergraduate degrees, and are notified of their assignment in late August or early September. This will act as your “home” department during your time at the School, and your academic adviser will be based in this department.
You will have chosen at least one course offered by the department to which you are assigned (two for the Department of Economics). Please note that your departmental assignment need not restrict your course options: you may take any combination of undergraduate courses offered by any department at the School, with just one from your home department (two from the Department of Economics).

Entry Requirements

1. Applicants should usually have completed at least two years of study at an overseas university by the time they begin studying at the School.
2. Applicants, who are studying towards a bachelor's degree, should have an overall mark of at least 85 or GPA 3.3 (90 or GPA3.5 preferred)
3. English Level：IELTS 7.0 with a score of 7.0 in all four components；or TOEFL 107 with a minimum of 25 in each of the four components
4. Applicants should provide a personal statement, a university transcript as well as the contact details of two academic referees.

Accommodation

All the residences are located in central London, offering great convenience to students in their daily commuting. Here are some very popular apartments:

Bankside House is located in the historic borough of Southwark on the Thames’ South Bank. A walk along the river will take you to the London Eye, the Houses of Parliament, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tate Modern and the South Bank Arts Centre, as well as the famous Borough Market.

High Holborn is situated just over ten minutes’ walk away from LSE campus, near the fashionable areas of Covent Garden and Soho. The main shopping district of Oxford Street is moments away, as are many of the capital’s major landmarks.

Rosebery Hall is located in Islington, near Sadler’s Wells Theatre and the Barbican arts centre with Clerkenwell's trendy bars and restaurants situated nearby.

The room type, price and facilities vary in different residences, but overall they all have a full array of amenities and are within a reasonable distance from the campus.
