The University of Wisconsin-Madison (also known as UW-Madison) is a public research university in Madison, Wisconsin, United States, ranked 11th overall among national public universities. The University of Wisconsin-Madison was founded in 1848, it is the official university of Wisconsin, and the flagship campus of the University of Wisconsin System. University of Wisconsin-Madison is one of the most respected universities in the United States, and it enjoys great reputation worldwide in various disciplines and fields. 19 Nobel Prize winners and 33 Pulitzer Prize winners came from this university. Undergraduate and graduate divisions in engineering, mathematics, sociology （ranked 1st among national universities）, education (ranked 5th among national universities), chemistry （ranked 9th among national universities）, philosophy （ranked 9th among national universities）, computer science, economics, business administration etc.. Various engineering majors are ranked in the top 20 nationally, including chemical engineering, nuclear engineering, industrial/systems engineering, environment engineering, computer engineering, civil engineering, materials engineering, mechanical engineering and electrical communication engineering.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison has 13 schools and colleges, 41 libraries serving the campus. The UW-Madison offers more than 140 majors, 3800-plus courses, and 2,000-plus faculty experts to 43,300 students. Program Dates and Courses

Based on students’ study goal, the level of English and academic background, two tracks of study abroad programs can be selected: English Language Program and credit bearing academic programs. VISP students will be able to register for courses and study with UW-Madison degree-seeking students. Upon successful completion of courses at UW-Madison the student will obtain an official transcript and attendance certificate.

>> English Language Programs

The English Language Programs offer courses in English as second language and orientation to life in the United States. Students can develop their English level, understand American society and culture, strengthen the sense of innovation through study with students from all over the world. 15-week program is offered in Spring Semester, there are 20 academic hours per week, students take a placement test to enter the class that suits their English level. The content of the course focus on improving skills in all four areas: listening, reading, writing, speaking.

Admission Requirements:

1.Students at Undergraduate or postgraduate level who are officially registered in USIEA’s Chinese partner Universities;
2.Students should have baseline English skills and rational study plan; Students also need to pass the interview of US International Education Association. Students with English at beginner level will not be accepted.

>> VISP: Visiting International Student Program

Students who have advanced level of English proficiency and would like to study courses in their academic field can choose to study VISP, which is UW-Madison credit program. Being jointly selected by Chinese university, USIEA and UW-Madison, visiting students will study with UW-Madison degree students, and access most of academic courses (except Law, Medicine and MBA, Nursing, Pharmacy, Vet Medicine). University credit programs are available to students in most of majors, both undergraduates and postgraduates can participate in the program. Undergraduate students need to choose 3-4 academic courses per semester with 12-18 credits. Most undergraduate visiting courses are offered by Liberal Arts College, College of Engineering, School of Business, School of Education, Art School, Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Graduate students need to choose at least 2-3 academic courses per semester with 8-12 credits. The four-week summer program allows students to take one specialized course, undergraduate students can choose courses with 3 credits, and graduate students can choose courses with 2 credits. Students have successfully completed the courses they are enrolled will be granted official UW-Madison transcripts and credits. Credits are transferrable to USIEA’s Chinese partner universities after assessment and accreditation.

Spring Semester, 2018

1.Undergraduate students who have completed at least one year of study at their home university, formally registered at USIEA’s partner universities;
2.Program Requirement: TOEFL of 80+, or IELTS of 6.5+, GPA3.0（4-point system）;
3.Interviewed by USIEA.

Accommodation

Students will be assigned to stay at UW-Madison student dormitories, students are able to experience true US university culture.

Madison is a quiet city, very suitable for study and living, but it is not boring, it is still a developed area, you can find most of things you want at here. Professors have strong academic background and research projects, I am very fortunate to be their student. Study abroad helped me to develop my English proficiency, academic performance and understanding the United States. I will work in the field of international business after returning home.
