Students can choose two types of courses: General English for Academic Purposes (GEAP) or University Credit Courses (Study Abroad).

›› General English for Academic Purposes (GEAP)
August 20 – December 14, 2018

GEAP has been designed by ELC to develop the communication, language and learning skills needed to operate on personal and social levels within an Australian academic context. At higher levels, the GEAP also aims to provide participants with some understanding of university expectations should they choose to continue studying at a tertiary level in Australia. Within this context, a range of learning goals can be accommodated. Some participants intend to go on to do academic study but need to increase their current level of English proficiency; others want to increase their confidence in using English to communicate both professionally and personally in a real-world context.

There are five levels ranging from elementary to advanced. Participants have 20 hours of class time per week. The core program runs for 4 hours per day. In these classes the focus is on the development of participants’ speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.

In addition, participants can also choose a Friday GEAP Specialisation class that best suits their needs, such as Global Communication Skills, Global Citizenship, Australian Studies and Popular Culture, Academic Preparation and TOEFL, IELTS Preparation and Get Ahead in Reading and Writing.

It was an amazing experience studying and living in sunny California. UCR is like a garden where the flowers of knowledge, freedom, respect, and happiness are in full blossom. Grab a cup of coffee, sit in the lovely sunshine, open my favorite book, and start my brand new day.

While studying at Columbia University, I was taken to the real science. This is not the "textbook science", but science at the frontier. With the inspiration from the professor, I started trying to solve the critical problem independently and the process has been full of excitement. No doubt the spirit of independence and the capacity of foresight would be indispensable for my future life. Columbia University is definitely an amazing place to improve you at the fundamental level.

I had a really wonderful time at CELOP and made a lot of friends that I still keep in touch with today. My instructors were great and taught me a lot both inside and outside classroom. I also had a conversation partner who was very helpful in improving my English. My experience at CELOP really helped me learn more about American culture and schools which has allowed me to succeed in my current position. I wish I could go back and study there again and again. You will never forget your experience here.

If you ask me what the most awesome activity is while I study at Metropolitan College Boston University in regards to academics, my answer is definitely networking events and professional conferences. Boston is home to many institutions of higher education like MIT, Harvard, and Boston College. Every year an increasing number of elite specialists in different industries from all over the world come to Boston for specific events. I joined Aite group for internship, and worked as a full-time employee. Even though the project I was assigned was a little bit tough for me, I learned a lot from my teammates. Thanks to this certificate program, I entered a small international arena to learn from different people from different countries.
